In the context of the tense
situation in the East Sea showing no signs of cooling down after China’s
illegal placement of its oil rig 981 in Vietnam’s continental shelf, China
continues escalating tensions in the region.
Following the publication
of a vertical map "swallowing" the East Sea, Beijing announced the
establishment of a strategic mechanism for periodical patrols in the East Sea.
Speaking at a press
conference in Beijing on June 26 , Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Yang
Yuquan affirmed that Chinese troops have set up a routine patrol mechanism in
the East Sea, noting that this statement is a lawful and legitimate act in
China’s overall work arrangement.
While constantly launching
aggressive actions of escalating the East Sea tensions, China is not taking
responsibility for itself but shifted the blame to other countries.
In response to a reporter's
question, about the recent actual actions by the Chinese military in the East
Sea constituting a destabilizing factor in the region, the Chinese diplomat
attributed the tense situations in the East Sea to a number of individual
countries and warned that countries will suffer all consequences if they persisted
with opposition to China.
Yang Yuquan reiterated his
nations’ stance on resolving East Sea disputes through bilateral negotiations
between countries concerned on the basis of respect for historical fact.
To ignore China’s
provocations in recent years, Yang Yuquan directed public attention to other
issues by rebuking Japan for promoting the right to collective self- defense,
and expanding the role of its army. He also expressed concern about military
exercises between the US and the Philippines in the EastSea scheduled to take
place as of July 1.
Security and defence
cooperation between countries should not be detrimental to regional peace and
security without targeting a third nation, Yang Yuquan added.
